UPSe and Digital Alpha Circulators – Grundfos

HOUSTON — Grundfos, a global pump manufacturer, introduced its next generation of small circulators for the heating market with the introduction of the Grundfos Digital NEXT range — starting with the UPSe 15-58 in late 2022, followed by the release of the new, digital ALPHA 15-58 in early 2023. Both circulators have been rated with the highest Energy Rating in the market at 193, revolutionizing the market by delivering enhanced efficiency and performance and offering the highest wire-to-water efficiency available today.

“To ensure our customers are ready for whatever comes next, Grundfos is transforming the future of circulator pumps with the Digital NEXT range,” said Chris Skeen, product management director, small circulators, Grundfos. “We've added powerful features. The Grundfos UPSe and ALPHA both provide automatic self-venting, dry-run protection, robust startup, and improved wiring. The new ALPHA comes with enhanced AUTOADAPT, guided setup, firmware updates, and the ability to replace 90% of pumps in this performance space.”

Model RVC Rooftop Unit with Enthalpy Core – Greenheck

SCHOFIELD, Wis. — Greenheck’s new model Rooftop Ventilator with Energy Recovery Core (RVC) is the latest addition to its dedicated outdoor air systems line for high percentage and 100% outside air applications. Model RVC incorporates a total enthalpy core that provides both sensible and latent heat transfer and meets ASHRAE 90.1 minimum efficiencies. The enthalpy core’s cross-flow design prevents supply and exhaust airstreams from intersecting resulting in an exhaust air transfer ratio (EATR) of 0%-1% per AHRI 1060 testing.

Model RVC is available in three housing sizes with airflow up to 15,000 cfm and 5-70 tons of packaged DX cooling capacity. A fiber core is available in sizes up to 30 tons; a polymer core is available in sizes up to 70 tons. As the enthalpy core has no moving parts, the need for mechanical maintenance and repair is greatly reduced. The core is easily accessible to clean in place. An integral bypass damper option for economizer and frost control is also available.

Expanded ABB Ability Smart Sensor – ABB

ZURICH — ABB, a global technology company, is now enabling customers to remotely monitor the health and performance of general machinery with the ABB Ability™ Smart Sensor, a key element of the ABB Ability™ Digital Powertrain.

The ABB Ability™ Smart Sensor turns rotating equipment, including drives, motors, and applications, such as pumps, into smart, wireless connected assets. This new innovative solution is designed to detect potential asset disturbances and planned maintenance before the reliability, productivity, and safety of machinery are impacted. The smart sensor fits to the asset’s surfaces, collecting and transmitting data via smartphone or gateway to a secure cloud service. Advanced algorithms analyze the data to provide real-time insights into the condition and performance of monitored assets. The asset to be monitored is chosen during commissioning. All components of a powertrain can be monitored via one portal, either individually or as part of the complete powertrain.

Sabroe HicaHP High-Capacity Heat Pumps – Johnson Controls

HOLME, Denmark — Johnson Controls Inc., a global provider of smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings, introduced its Sabroe HicaHP (high-capacity heat pumps) family of products. The high-capacity heat pump portfolio includes six modular, industrial heat pump products designed to decarbonize in various applications ranging from district heating to data centers and battery manufacturing sites to food processing plants.

The heat pumps also use ammonia as the refrigerant, making it possible to reach capacities up to 25 MW and required temperatures up to 95°C while providing outstanding part-load performance and maximum operating flexibility. The natural refrigerant is highly efficient, low cost, and the only refrigerant with the lowest global warming potential (GWP) value and ozone depletion potential (ODP): zero.

EME5625MDE Louver – Ruskin

GRANDVIEW, Mo. — The newly-designed EME5625MDE from Ruskin® — a Miami-Dade-approved, wind-driven rain resistant stationary louver — meets enhanced protection building requirements for structures, including office buildings and schools, in high-velocity hurricane zones. With a high free area of 55%, the 5-inch-deep, extruded-aluminum vertical louver is mechanically fastened, offering greater strength and improved performance over Ruskin’s previous Miami-Dade-compliant model, the EME5625MD.

“Today’s hurricane seasons are longer and more active than those of the past, with increased frequency of intense storms,” said Joe Rockhold, louver product manager at Ruskin. “To keep buildings safe when subject to heavy wind loads, rainfall and debris, the impact-resistant EME5625MDE is designed to provide greater protection. Its mechanical fastenings create a stronger bond than welded parts do and can better withstand severe weather and debris.”

In addition to Miami Dade Approval NOA #21.1021.03, the EME5625MDE is AMCA 550 listed for high-velocity wind-driven rain and AMCA 540 listed for impact rating (enhanced missile E). Testing included wind loads up to 160 pounds per square foot, and the published performance rating is based on testing in accordance with AMCA 500-L.

Flatness Check Augmented Reality App – FARO Technologies Inc.

LAKE MARY, Fla. — FARO® Technologies Inc., a global provider of 4D digital reality solutions, introduced FARO Flatness Check, the company’s first augmented reality app for the concrete industry. The app is designed to enable the immediate visualization of floor flatness and floor levelness, ensuring pours are completed on schedule and of exceptional quality, which helps to eliminate expensive rework typical in high-rise residential and office construction.

Flatness Check integrates with FARO Sphere, the company’s cloud-based and Software as a Service-enabled ecosystem, and is compatible with several generations of laser scanners, including the new FARO Focus Premium Laser Scanner. Using an iPad, users can document and analyze the floor flatness and floor levelness of any concrete slab and share that data with additional project stakeholders. The app also enables foremen guiding field crews to identify out of tolerance areas within minutes and to fix those deviations while the concrete is still wet. This near real-time ability will ultimately cut costs for contractors and other involved parties as improved quality means less rework. With Flatness Check, schedules are adhered to and other trades can continue their work in a timely and efficient manner.

Thermafit Air-to-Water Modular Heat Pump – Trane

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Trane – by Trane Technologies, a global climate innovator, introduced its Thermafit Air-to-Water Modular Heat Pump Model AXM, a fully electric modular unit that owners can scale to match a building’s heating or cooling load. The Model AXM moves heat rather than generating heat; thus, it can be three times more efficient than other forms of electric heating. The Thermafit modular product line includes the Model AXM and eight product families that bring buildings into the future of sustainable comfort.

By combining individually controlled AXM modules to create a single, larger heat pump, operators can right-size heating and cooling performance to meet a wide range of applications. In addition, the modular design is ideal for tight spaces or where the footprint is limited, like the roof of a tall building or a freight elevator, and offers true redundancy to help operators minimize downtime.

Each module includes dual refrigerant circuits with lab-verified vapor injection compressors for more reliable heating. These compressors facilitate greater lift and higher leaving hot water temperatures down to 0°F outdoor ambient temperature.
