QEID Upblast Fan – Greenheck

SCHOFIELD, Wis. — Greenheck’s QEID direct-drive mixed-flow fan is now available in a roof-mounted exhaust or upblast configuration ideal for discharging clean air or fume exhaust up and away from a building. The QEID Upblast’s mixed-flow wheel offers higher efficiency operation than a belt-drive fan and requires less maintenance by eliminating belts, pulleys and fan shaft bearings, and a factory-programmed variable frequency drive (VFD) enables easy adjustment and control. A fully welded, heavy-gauge curb cap eliminates leaks and allows for quick mounting to a roof curb. Butterfly dampers provide backflow protection and prevent rain penetration, while a windband protects the dampers from debris and keeps the damper blades closed when not in operation.

The QEID Upblast fan has performance capacities from 800 to 88,000 cfm and up to 10 in. wg. and is Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) licensed for Fan Energy Index (FEI), sound and air performance. The QEID Upblast fan is also UL/cUL listed for electrical (UL/cUL-705) and power ventilators for smoke control and can be used for emergency smoke exhaust applications.

RTSCD Commercial Duty Transfer Switches – Russelectric

HINGHAM, Mass. — Automatic transfer switches (ATSs) serve to transfer electrical loads from a preferred power source to an alternate source when the preferred source’s voltage and/or frequency varies from preset limits. The switches also retransfer loads when optimal voltage and frequency in the preferred source is restored. Long used in mission-critical, life safety applications — like health care facilities — to ensure continuous power supply, the switches can also provide an important function in commercial applications during outages. Commercial-duty switches understandably deliver fewer features than mission-critical ones; however, the commercial-duty switches are not always built to the same standards of quality and reliability. Russelectric, a Siemens Business, a designer manufacturer, and supporter of mission-critical ATSs, has responded to this need within the industry by developing a commercial duty ATS. Russelectric’s RTSCD offers the company’s quality and factory support in a simpler, easier to maintain, and more affordable package.

An ATS is put in place to sense for a loss of normal power from the usual power source, typically utility power supplied through power distribution equipment. When this loss of power is sensed, the ATS switches the building’s electrical loads to a secondary source, typically a generator. The ATS awaits the return of normal power, at which point it transitions the electrical loads back. All of this is done with little to no input from technicians, particularly in simpler commercial applications.

However, light industrial, commercial, and residential applications for ATSs, such as multifamily housing units, schools, office buildings, and other campus environments, do not require the same sophisticated features that are found in a mission-critical ATS design. Nonetheless, they must still be reliable, easy to operate, and supported by technical experts for maintenance and repair.

Enhanced J22 Natural Gas Analyzer – Endress+Hauser

REINACH, Switzerland — Endress+Hauser announced a new version of its J22 TDLAS gas analyzer, an update to the initial release in 2021. The J22 tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) analyzer continues the tradition established by its predecessor with exceptional accuracy, a user-friendly interface, integrated diagnostics, and a host of modular hardware.

The latest updates include support for the Modbus TCP/IP protocol, which enables users to communicate with their analyzers from a central network location in a bidirectional, secure point-to-point manner. Combined with the addition of a native web server, this enables users to easily monitor, configure, and service the analyzer remotely.

“Modularity and increased uptime are functional designs unique to this analyzer,” said Alan Garza, advanced analysis product manager, Endress+Hauser. “The J22 was designed to be almost 100% field serviceable. The goal is to allow users the freedom to repair their analyzers without the need to send it back to us, giving the customer the ability to decide when and where to service their analyzers if needed.”

ESP-Systemwize Selection Tool with ESP-Thermal – Bell & Gossett

MORTON GROVE, Ill. — Bell & Gossett, a Xylem brand, integrated ESP-Thermal, an online plate and shell and tube heat exchanger selection program, into its ESP-Systemwize selection tool.

B&G launched ESP-Systemwize, an online selection tool that provides HVAC and plumbing system designers the ability to choose all system components within a single integrated tool to ensure an efficient hydronic system design, in 2017. Since its debut, the selection tool has continuously evolved to meet the needs of mechanical system designers with added updates advancing efficient system design functionality, such as optimized pump selection, operating cost data, floor space calculator, and efficiency ratings. System Designer, introduced earlier this year, streamlines the system design process, allowing engineers to generate a complete hydronic heating or cooling system design — with all supporting documentation and details — and quote jobs quickly and easily.

“Optimizing a system is dependent on products, including pumps and heat exchangers, working together efficiently,” said Jim Klimek, heat exchanger global product manager, Xylem Inc. “Adding ESP Thermal as part of Systemwize allows contractors and engineers to work in one program to optimize the system design and reduce overall cost. Plus, when you’re ready to go, the platform automatically pulls all documentation and submittals you need for system selection.”

LOKX System Ductile Iron Fitting – GF Piping Systems

IRVINE, Calif. — GF Piping Systems (GF) introduced the proprietary LOKX System™ Ductile Iron Fitting from GF Central Plastics, designed specifically for use with C900 PVC and CIOD HDPE pipe in buried applications. The new system eliminates the need for any bolts or assembly tools, resulting in a savings of up to 80% in installation time and labor costs compared to mechanical joint restraint (MJ) fitting systems.

Engineered with a deep bell design, the LOKX System’s ductile iron push-on style fitting has deflection capabilities of up to a total of 10 degrees in any direction (5 degrees deflection per bell). This flexibility allows for extreme ground movement, making it suitable for seismic applications.

Another key feature to the LOKX System is its internal self-restraining gasket that eliminates pipe-to-pipe and pipe-to-fitting separation, even at high pressures. The self-restraining gasket has a low insertion force in addition to a lip-seal design with 316 stainless steel gripping segments. When fully engaged, the segments self-engage to form a 360-degree restraint that prevents pipe distortion and point loading that MJ restraints cause. Compatible with C900 PVC and CIOD HDPE pipe, the LOKX System is manufactured to AWWA C153 with a minimum working pressure of 350 psi.

In the water and wastewater fitting market, the installation for mechanical joint fittings and joint restraints can be time-consuming and difficult to install, depending on ditch conditions. The mechanical joint fitting was originally designed for use on heavy ductile iron pipe, yet the majority of all installations today are on PVC pipe in sizes 12 inches and smaller. Designed specifically for use on PVC and PE pipe, the LOKX Systems greatly reduces human error and the amount of time required to install the traditional MJ restraint systems.
